Marva Sellers Information

My role with Louisville YFC and Deaf Teen Quest ministry is a God-given opportunity to combine the Loves of my life, Jesus the Christ and teaching about Him!

I am Deaf, the uppercase letter of ‘D’ undernotes that I am a native-born member of Deaf community, this means that I am culturally and linguistically bilingual user of ASL, American Sign Language (ASL) and English. My first identity is a Christian. Daily, I train to decrease myself so that Jesus is present through every conversation, encounter and my relationships with Deaf/HH teens and their families. I have dual Bachelor’s degrees in Education and Developmental Drama (otherwise known as Creative Drama) and am working on my Master’s degree in Deaf Education.  I have 10+ years of teaching experience in a Deaf school.  I’m also a teacher for introductory and advanced levels of  ASL. Currently I work with hearing parents of D/HH children as a Deaf Mentor. My role is to expand my Deaf Teen Quest team of volunteers and church partners in order to reach Deaf/HH teens with the Gospel of Jesus.  The goal of every volunteer on the DTQ team is to be consistently present in the lives of teens and to develop Christ-sharing relationships with them.  Deaf Teen Quest’s goal is to provide a safe and high-energy fun-filled environment for D/HH teenagers with their peers, surrounded by caring and Christian leaders who know them on a personal level.  All this is to introduce God as the infinite-loving Father who will never leave them who sent his son, Jesus Christ who loved them so much that He was willing to die for them to be reborn and truly LIVE in His image!

“My soul glorifies the Lord and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior”  Luke 1: 46-47
